Guitar Product Review: Line 6 Tonecore Echo Park

By Christian Romans

Buy Price: $109.99
List Price: $209.99
Store: American Musical Supply

The Line 6 Echo Park pedal is a pretty spectacular pedal. It is very enjoyable to use, actually. I feel it may be one of the better delay/echo pedals available on the market at the moment, and for the price I am not sure that it has much competition.

The physical qualities are the same as the Uber Metal pedal. It is very durable and could put up to a stage show. There is, however, no "clean" and "distorted" channel; as this pedal is only a pedal for clean music (unless wired together with another pedal, of course). The pedal itself is used to "tap the tempo", which has very little useful effect in reality.

As far as the sound quality is concerned, the sound is generally pretty great. For ambient, atmospheric clean sounds with delays (and to a minimal extent, without) this pedal is great. The tones can easily add to a musicians compositions, as they add a unique touch! There are four knobs "adjustment" knobs (Mix, Repeat, Time, Mod), as well as a fifth knob that is used to go through the settings on this pedal. There are manys settings, actually, including: swell, slap, ping pong, and many others. There is also a settings switch used to flick between the three settings (Tape, Digital, Analog).

There are many complexities to this pedal that would take a long writing to explain. This pedal needs to be tried by the individual, but similar to most Line 6 pedals; it is very simple to use and the average person would be able to understand and configure it in a matter of minutes. For those in a rush, there are also a few presets found in the booklet.

Summary:

Pros:

-A great clean sound
-Some great delays. My personal favorite is the sweep setting which gives off a very tranquil vibe of an ocean wave.
-Very simple to use
-Very durable and long lasting
-Decently priced for those in need of a cheap echo pedal

Cons:

-The tap tempo. I find it to be pointless. The real reason for it is to get echoes that match the tempo you input, however this process is sketchy. It would not be very effective in a live setting either, to add.
-Some other settings when not mixed properly just sound horrible. Some even create a very high pitched noise, that actually made me have to turn off my amp and stop playing for a little while because it was making my physical body sick.

Overall Rating:

3.5/5 stars
